The Kindness of Strangers has been selected for a number of international film festivals, including Telluride, where it was one of the 18 films selected out of 1,200 submissions, Marseilles and Heartland, where it was the recipient of the Crystal Heart Award.

The Kindness of Strangers premiered on HBO on September 23, 1999 and was the subject of a very successful online discussion forum on the HBO web site.
